Dr Rob McNeilly
Solution Oriented Approaches
Dr Robert McNeilly
Dr. Robert McNeilly was in a suburban Melbourne general medical
practice for 10 years, was inspired by the late Milton Erickson’s human
approach to therapy, has created his own interpretation of dealing in a
respectful, dignified way with human dilemmas that affect individuals,
couples and families.
He founded the CET in l988 to introduce Ericksonian Hypnosis and the
Solution Oriented Approach to hypnosis, counselling and coaching in
Australia. For more than 20 years, the contribution he brings in his
teaching style, writing and unique approaches to learning and therapy
allow for a ready application into everyday living are recognised
locally, nationally and internationally.
He is co-author, with Jenny Brown, of "Healing With Words", "Healing
the Whole Person" was published by Wiley, and Crown House have
published a series of DVD demonstrations of counselling and hypnosis.
Students comment on his easy, respectful manner and his elegant ability
to make complex issues approachable while retaining their essence.
‘ Rob McNeilly studied with Milton H. Erickson M.D. ... is one of the
most knowledgeable practitioners of Ericksonian methods in Australia.
His teaching is clear, entertaining and edifying.’
Jeffrey K. Zeig, Ph.D. Board of Directors, The Milton H. Erickson Foundation, Inc., Phoenix, Arizona.
“Rob McNeilly worked with Milton Erickson, has been an invited
presenter at International Ericksonian Congresses, and is a passionate
and skilful teacher of the Solution Oriented Approach. I know him and
his work, and value his personal and professional
contributions." Bill O’Hanlon M.S.
‘A highly skilled presenter whose unique perspectives and playful
demeanour make for a delightful learning experience.’
Michael D. Yapko, Ph.D.
I had the rare privilege of learning with Erickson and experienced first hand some of his vast complexity. I have made my own translation, simplifying some of the complexity to create a solid foundation and have the continuing joy of being part of a growing number of people who are developing their own complexities and style.
In this workshop we will explore beautifully simple methods of inviting anyone into the experience of hypnosis and to connect with their unique resources in a dependably reliable way, generate ways of softening rigidities that keep problems stuck, and unique flexibilities in experience that hypnosis can contribute, in a mood of respectful lightness and safety so that whatever our levels of experience, we can find our own individual version of this method and apply it to our work readily and immediately.
Each topic will be discussed, then demonstrated with a participant. Participants will then practice in pairs so they can make their own translation of the method, followed by discussion so we can share the learning with each other.
Richard Hill
The Neuroscience of Hypnotherapy
Richard Hill
Richard is among the growing band of practitioners and speakers who examine the way therapy affects the brain and mind. There has been an avalanche of information about the brain and mind over the past two decades that enables us to understand what actually goes on inside the skull and then what happens throughout the body during therapy. As a member of the esteemed Ernest Rossi's International Psychosocial Genomics Research Group, Richard is able to present cutting edge information about the neurobiology of hypnotherapy. In response to the new call for a multi-disciplined approach he is also a member of the Global Association for Interpersonal Neurobiology Studies, the NeuroLeadership Institute, The Creative Skills Training Council and is convenor of the MindScience Institute that seeks to draw together modern developments in neuroscientific studies that benefit our understanding and practice of the therapeutic arts.
Understanding what happens in the mind, brain and
body when we do what we do allows for deeper understanding, greater confidence
and the possibility of developing new ideas and perspectives. Learn about the
ongoing work of Ernest Rossi from one of his direct associates. See a
demonstration of the Rossi Mirror Hand technique and gain an insight into the
processes that facilitate the benefits felt by your clients.

Philip Armstrong
Real Ethical Dilemma's in Practice:
"A Funny thing happened on the way to supervision"
Philip
Armstrong
Philip will discuss various ethical challenges and situations that he has found himself in particularly in the early days of his 15 years of private practice. Some funny some not so but all real and all very human. Many of his real life experiences as a Private Practitioner challenged him as a person and professional as well as his Supervisor in an era when Supervision was rarely formal and not a mandatory requirement of registration. Since those times Philip has specialised in the area of Professional/Clinical supervision and is known as a trail blazer in this area and has influenced the profession to adopt it as a mandatory requirement of Practice for counsellors. There are still many areas of grey in Supervision which lead to incongruence’s with Codes of Practice as we struggle as professionals with ethics in a world that does not stand still long enough for us to reflect understanding before the evolutionary process of life puts us into a new spin. Philip is a leader in his profession and was responsible for developing standards for Supervisors in counselling as well as developing the first ever Professional Register for Supervisors in Australia. He is a co-writer of the first ever accredited Cert IV in Supervision course for counsellors and is a co-author of “Practice of Clinical Supervision” which came out in late 2009 and was published Australian Academic Press. Philip is the CEO of the Australian Counselling Association and an Associate Fellow of the Australian College of Health Service Executives and a co-founder of the ACA College of Counselling Hypnotherapists.

"How to attract new clients...
when you hate wasting money!

Keith Banfield
Many hypnotherapists are great at helping people
with problems in their lives but often struggle to find enough
fee-paying clients to really make their practise successful and give
them the lifestyle they want. If you would like to know how to attract
more new clients, more often and without spending a fortune then you
will love Keith’s idea-packed talk, “How to attract new clients ….when you hate wasting money!”
Keith
Banfield is an International Professional speaker and the Managing
Director of training company, Plus Results. He worked as a
hypnotherapist for 12 years in the UK before emigrating to Australia 6
years ago. Over 38,000 people have enjoyed his hypnotic audio
programmes and through his radio broadcasts, speaking and other media
has helped hundreds of thousands of others. His passion is
understanding how people think, what makes them buy and more
specifically what makes them want to buy from you?
Please
Bring a pen and plenty of paper and don’t be too surprised how many
great new ideas you get from Keith that you can take away and apply in
your business.
Anne Clarke & Lyndall Briggs
Live Blood Analysis & Hypnotherapy
Due to popular demand
Anne Clarke & Lyndall Briggs
Several years ago at a ASCH workshop
attendees were thrilled to see for themselves the results of
Hypnotherapy on the blood using "blood analysis" to measure the success
of treatments and noting the changes in the blood samples over a period
of time. By popular demand, this subject is back!
Are you
interested in seeing for yourself the impact that Hypnotherapy can have
on the body? If the answer to this question is "Yes" then you will be
most interested in this informative qualitative study which will:
• Give a complete, detailed description of what has occurred
• Present the data as pictures of the blood that are easy to understand
• Receive a copy of the guided visualisation, so that you can repeat this for yourself
Rich
qualitative date is more time consuming to collect and less likely to
be generalised, so you will be shown the specifics on how each of the
individuals responded.
• Gain confidence that what you are doing works!
• Be able to tell clients that you have personally seen the studies!
• Feel inspired to do research and case studies yourself!
The
ASCH is delighted to present Lyndall Briggs (Hypnotherapist) and Anne
Clarke (Naturopath) who together will show how “Guided Visualisations”
targeting Improving the Immune System affect the blood of 10 candidates
over a one month period.
Lyndall has written a short article on the
immune system and a recorded a 25 minute guided visualisation for
“Improving Immune System” which will be given to 10 candidates. They
will read the article and listen to the guided visualisation over a one
month period.
During this time, Anne will take blood samples
before they receive the article and MP3 file, at intervals during the
month, and at the end of the month, and will analysis these results
using Live Blood Analysis. Anne will then explain to us what this
means in the human body.
Gordon Young
AHA! Creating Significant Emotional Events (SEE) in Therapy
Clinical Demonstration
Gordon Young, the ASCH President
Director and Lead Trainer of the AICH.
As a Clinical Hypnotherapist, facilitator and published author, Gordon has pursued his craft both in Australia and in the USA. He has trained with, and liaises with many of the giants of the field. He is the current Vice President of the Australian Society of Clinical Hypnotherapists, the former Chair of the Australian Board of Neuro Linguistic Programming, the Editor of the Australian Journal of Clinical Hypnotherapy and Hypnosis, an appointed supervisor for the Australian Counselling Association and the ASCH, a Member of the International Coaching Federation (ICF) and Member of the British Institute of Hypnotherapy (BIH).
Whilst studying at the Milton Erickson Foundation in Phnix Arizona a "Blinding Flash of the Obvious" came to him. Problems often erupt out of a significant emotional event (SEE). They create largely unconscious and often unwanted change in the human psyche. The first premise of this approach is that although the client will often apparently come looking for information, what clients really come for is a unique experience that they cannot easily replicate outside of the therapeutic context.
Therapists and clients, no matter what approach they take, relish that “AHA” moment that so often accompanies a new insight or resolution. For many therapists what leads to these “Aha” moments is not predictable or easily understood. We often trip over them and then enjoy the satisfaction without ever fully knowing how we got there. As a result, these moments do not occur as often as many of us would like.
Gordon will demonstrate methods of creating SEEs
Brian Magrath
"If distress wins, we all lose, if distress is beaten, we win all"
"Taking Life Seriously"
Brian
Magrath is a director of the International Institute of Psychosomatic
Medicine, and Vice-President of the A.S.C.H. His major interests lie in

psychosomatic disorders. A principal motto of the IIPM is "The future
of medicine is anything you can imagine".
Brian
has produced several research studies, which aim to promote the use of
psychosomatic therapies in place of chemical interventions, by showing
causes. He has also edited a book on the subject of distress and
stress, entitled "On Not Knowing What To Do", in which he maintains
that "If distress wins, we all lose - if distress is beaten, we win all".
The IIPM organises the Seehealth™ groups, who meet to learn, use and
maintain wellness, using the modalities presented.
Brian’s topic will be "Taking Life Seriously",
in which he will present ideas that have relevance to everyone’s life,
and will promote considerable thought and perspective on the lives we
choose to lead.

Merv Edmunds
"Enough is enough - new insights into addictive behaviour"
Merv Edmunds

At last, your chance to understand the biology of addictive behaviour, and get new insights to raise your success with people seemingly unable to say "enough is enough". Addictions - whether behaviours like gambling, shopping, online activities, or substances abuse - all have a common origin. They are the results of a natural biological process being hijacked by powerful expectations. Sounds too simple? Well, it is time for accurate explainations of human behaviour based on 'givens' from biology, physics, sociology, neuroscience - all the more profound because of their simplicity.
Be prepared for the WOW experience, for these revolutionary ideas will change your thinking and ramp your practice to new levels of effectiveness.
Merv uses the approach in
private practice, runs introductory seminars across Australia, and
provides training for therapists wishing to add to their professional
skill-set. Merv has presented at many conferences here and overseas.
Dr Gabrielle Peacock
Using Hypnosis with Families
Dr Gabrielle Peacock
Dr Gabrielle Peacock has a
background in General Practice that organically evolved a
counselling focus. She began learning from Rob McNeilly in
2000 and was inspired to pursue learning and teaching his
approach, initially in his programmes and then as a kind of
Sorcerers Apprentice to Rob, learning to teach and teaching
to learn. She has developed a deep appreciation of the
value of experiential learning, and a fascination for
facilitating learning in others.
Her interest in Family therapy grew out of the enjoyment
she experienced in working with families in general
practice. She brings to this work her experience in
solution oriented conversations that reconnect family
members, articulate concerns and uncover family strengths
and resources that assists their being together in a more
satisfying and sustaining way. She founded CET Hobart in
2003 and left general practice to focus on teaching and
growing a Solution Oriented learning community in
Tasmania.
