Complaints Procedure
Ethics Matters………
In choosing a health provider, it is very important to select a Member of a Peak Body, like the A.S.C.H., so that there can be surety as to the ethical attitude of the practitioner.
The Ethics Committee of the A.S.C.H. has responsibility for monitoring and maintaining the highest possible ethical standards of the Members, in terms of their responsibilities in professional and moral behaviour, in carrying on their business as hypnotherapists.
All our members have read and have agreed, without reservation, to strictly comply with the Code of Conduct adopted by the Society, and which may be seen at Code of Ethics on this website. These standards are expected to be rigorously observed and upheld to the letter.
THE A.S.C.H. REGARDS THE MATTER OF ETHICAL BEHAVIOUR TO BE OF PARAMOUNT IMPORTANCE, AND WILL ALWAYS INVESTIGATE ANY CONCERN OR COMPLAINT MADE ABOUT ANY OF ITS MEMBERS.
There shall be no shelving of responsibility in investigating complaints, and a committee raised to investigate any complaint will always report directly to the Board of Directors of the Society, and in serious matters where it is necessary, a lay member of the committee will be co-opted for the purpose of seeing fair play. This will be a person from outside the A.S.C.H., and who has no interest in either party to any dispute arising from the complaint.
Sometimes, misunderstandings may lead to dispute, and whilst the matter may not be a matter of breach of ethical behaviour by a Member, it will be dealt with to everyone’s satisfaction.
As the leading regulatory body for Hypnotherapy in Australia, the A.S.C.H. is well and favourably known to all the Health Care Commissions throughout Australia, and has worked with the Health Care Complaints Commission, (the HCCC), in NSW in formulating the Code of Conduct enacted in that State for Professionals working in the Complementary Health Care professions.
Complaints Procedure
If there is a concern or complaint about one of our members, it is usually best, in the first instance to bring it immediately to the attention of the practitioner in question, since this has often been found to lead to a quick resolution of the matter.
If this seems not to be the way to go, then the complainant should contact the chair of the Ethics Committee, whose details appear below, simply leaving a contact number, or contact details. There is complete and strictest confidentiality applied to all these matters, and no details of the complaint need be disclosed at this stage.
After the Society has discussed details of the complaint with the complainant, then a resolution procedure will be followed, which will involve ultimately reporting details to the relevant Health Care Complaints Commission.
In the event that the matter relates to the health and/or safety of a patient, or relates to sexual or physical assault, then the Ethics Chair will report the matter immediately to the relevant HCCC.

A word from our Patron
HELEN REDDY
A number of years ago I retired from stage and screen to pursue other loves of my life - one of which brought me to hypnotherapy. Now as a Clinical Hypnotherapist myself, it’s an honour to be associated with and support the endeavours of the ASCH. Maybe you are a therapist looking for an association to belong to, someone considering becoming a hypnotherapist yourself, or perhaps you are a member of the public looking for the best professional assistance available. You’ve come to the right place. The ASCH is here to serve you in whatever way it can. Please, just ask.
